Personally, I can't live without my K750 and I can't live without Flickr. I'm a happier person because of both of those technologies.

Yeah I agree the K750 is a great phone. But to me it's just a neat convergence of mobile phone and Mp3 player (which i don't use) and 2 Mpx camera. It's convenient and OK designed (don't really think it has sex appeal tho) but really I just bought it because I wanted a new phone.

It hasn't replaced my 5 Mpx digital camera, it hasn't replaced my iPod Nano and I always use the mobile phone more for txt than calls.

I guess I'm just having a digital device crisis - my Apple MacBook Pro strugglers along like a G4 400 Mhz machine as all the programs I need to use are 'translated' thru Rosetta, by the time Adobe & macromedia release versions on Universal Binary for the Intel processor it looks like my machine will be a year old if not more and therefore edging into obsolesence. My 3rd generation iPod is already obsolete as it has under 4hrs battery life so i use my Nano (gave my Shuffle to a homeless bum one day as he looked like he needed it more than me!) and I spend an inordinate amount of time in iPhoto and Flickr arranging and tagging (and now geotagging) my photos and in iTunes adding album cover artwork etc etc

I just get to the point where I just feel like a geeky librarian endlessly cataloguing and re-classifying old content.

And now after Flickr we have YouTube which has seen some highlights (like Chad Vader) but already, like Flickr, has a sea of lesser content clogging it's (and my) bandwidth.

I guess I fundamentally ask myself - is iTunes and my MP3 player better than my old 6-CD Hifi? Has the ability to upload my photos to Flickr from my digital cameras made me enjoy my photos more or take better photos? Does having a digital camera on my phone and a synched diary actually make me more organised or capture those moments I might not of otherwise? I'ms ure sometimes it's better but is it worth all the time I invest on maintaining them?

Bit like websites and blogs I guess ;)

Rick, you're the one who turned me on to the K750! That's the best device I've ever owned. I couldn't live without it. It has changed my life in so many seriously positive ways.

But I do know what you're on about. I hate the iPod. It has major sex appeal, no doubt. It also has fatal flaws.

Do you remember that preso by the Sony guy at design camp? He showed a market in India where they hack together hardware to build custom components and custom solutions recycling old, broken systems. I wonder when that same concept of mass-customisation will become mass market.

Interesting stuff mr Fierlinger. Obviosuly I agree with all that (and the stuff on your blog) ... but I am getting a bit sick of the ubiquity of 'desiraable iProducts' ... do they really make our life better? Or do we spend more time maintaing/updating & cataloguing all our assets rather than actually creating stuff ... err ...discuss?
